Firefork: Campfire Poker

5 Dec

If you’re just building your camping supplies and you don’t want to invest in a series of campfire pokers for marshmallows and hotdogs, try the Firefork! Rather than using a gross stick you found in the woods, the Firefork is attached to the end of this stick, and then you place your food on the end of the clean pokers.

It is pictured with a protective guard on the pokers, of course.

KitchenAid Professional Mixer Steal!

29 Nov

I’m building up my kitchen supplies – I have none of my own since I don’t have my own kitchen yet. I’m always looking for steals and right now Amazon has a promotion – vote for the KitchenAid mixer and you may get a chance to buy it next week.

We’re talking the pro $500 mixer for $69. This is insanity! Vote for a chance on the customer vote page, the last item on round six. This is a steal of a deal! Lasts until December 4, 2008.

Update: Didn’t get selected to buy it. Oh well. Buy the regular priced professional 6 quart mixer at Amazon. Just a note that often times, different colors are different prices.

Carbonara vs. Tomato

14 Jan

I made the chicken parmesan over rotini again, but I love carbonara sauce so much that I decided to ditch the tomato and mix up some egg and cheese.

Well, normally this would be cool, but the chicken has tomato sauce between the chicken and the mozzarella. The tomato sauce completely overwhelms the carbonara. So, boys and girls, when making your carbonara dish, ensure that you are not smothering the flavor with something else in a side dish.

Parmesan Chicken over Rotini

13 Jan

Kraft foods has a video on cooking parmesan chicken with rotini. I gave it a try, with a few modifications, and it proved quite delectable.

  Chicken Parmesan over Rotini

The recipe called for egg white, I used a whole egg. I also used club crackers instead of Ritz. Close enough, and still tasty.I used LaRosa pasta, which I’ve never used before (I had some in stock, and I had run out of my usual whole-wheat pasta). I will never use LaRosa again. It fell apart in  moments, and as I stirred it, it was no longer recognizable as rotini. I’ve never had such catastrophic results in a pasta. It still tasted acceptable, but I’ll never use that brand again.

My family gave it a 10 and all wanted seconds. It’s quick to prepare, easy to push together after work. Add this to your quick meals list.
